Among Tuning's objectives is that of analysing which competences are related to each subject area. These competences are crucial for any qualification, as they are specifically related to concrete knowledge of a subject area. These competences vary from subject to subject, and they are what confers identity and consistency to a programme.

The main work of the project will be given to the twelve groups of academics from the twelve subject areas (Architecture, Business, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Education, Geology, History, Law, Mathematics, Medicine, Nursing and Physics), who will work for the duration of the project to find common points of reference for the aforementioned areas.
